FAQ For Potential Crowdfunder's

What is PossiBull?

PossiBull is UB’s official crowdfunding platform. Faculty, staff, and alumni can use PossiBull as a tool to raise money for everything from scholarships to medical mission trips.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a way of raising money by getting small amounts from a large number of people. You’re probably most familiar with crowdfunding through platforms like Kickstarter or Go Fund Me.

How does it work?

We provide the platform; you bring the story! The first step is to fill out an application. Your application will be reviewed by the crowdfunding team and if it is approved, we’ll set you up in the backend of PossiBull and teach you how to use it. From there you set up your project page and start raising funds from your own network. Two important things to know, one, not all crowdfunding applications are approved, and two you will be soliciting family, friends, peers etc. to fund your project University Advancement will not actively solicit for your project on your behalf.

We won’t leave you all on your own though, promise! We’re here to help you set a realistic goal, craft a compelling case for support, draft a communications plan and can even provide some help coming up with a plan to thank donors after the campaign!

Who can use PossiBull?

PossiBull can be used by faculty, staff, alumni and select student groups that have a current account with the UB Foundation. If you are unsure if your group can fundraise with PossiBull please reach out to Kaley Donaldson at kaleydon@buffalo.edu

What makes a project most likely to succeed?

You only need a few things to get your campaign off the ground:

  • A clear, concise, and compelling story – why are you raising money? Why do you need this money?
  • Clear specific fundraising (dollars or donors) goal
  • A team that is willing to learn and do the work

The most successful projects will be the ones that have a realistic goal coupled with an engaging story for why this project is important, and a team that is willing to incorporate the best practice recommendations of the Crowdfunding team. Ultimately your success is in your hands, we are here to help you hit the ground running and to teach you everything you’ll need to know, but ultimately, it’s up to every member of the team to actively engage their social communities and networks.

Are you up for the challenge?

What will be considered for a PossiBull project?

  • Projects that enhance the student experience at UB
  • Research
  • Travel Costs for students to attend conferences, medical mission trips etc.
  • Equipment
  • Campaigns focused on participation goals as opposed to dollar goals (For example, 200 donations from the Class of 2024)
  • Please note this is not an exhaustive list and final eligibility will be determined by the Crowdfunding team.

What will NOT be considered for a PossiBull project?

  • Faculty or staff salaries
  • Money for tuition
  • Many student clubs
  • Projects for profit
  • Please note this is not an exhaustive list and final eligibility will be determined by the Crowdfunding team

What is a typical project timeline?

Projects typically run for 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks). While the team is actively fundraising for 30 days there is a pre-campaign quiet phase and a post-campaign thank you phase of the project, each of those lasts about 2-4 weeks on average.

Depending on the needs of your project the Crowdfunding team will help you create a more concrete timeline if your project application is accepted.

How can I apply to host a project?

Just fill out the application here: https://crowdfunding.buffalo.edu/submit-application

What happens after I submit an application?

Once you’ve submitted an application the crowdfunding team will review your application and reach back out within XX business days to let you know if your application was approved or not. Once approved an initial meeting will be set up to discuss your project and flesh everything out in more detail.
