A University at Buffalo Libraries Special Collection, the Poetry Collection is the library of record for 20th- and 21st-century poetry in English. Founded in 1935 by Charles Abbott, the Poetry Collection now holds one of the world’s largest collections of poetry first editions and other titles, little literary magazines, broadsides and anthologies; a substantial collection of artworks; and more than 150 archives and manuscript collections from a wide range of poets, presses, magazines and organizations.

Although the Poetry Collection remains closed to in-person visits during the Fall 2020 semester, we continue to offer virtual services (remote teaching, reference, interlibrary loan, reproduction requests) to meet the needs of our patrons. We have also promoted more widely our online content and increased our virtual programming with events like the UB James Joyce Collection Virtual Celebration held in June. Your gift to the Poetry Collection help supports these efforts, in addition to our daily core activities including acquisitions, cataloging, processing, publications, and special projects.

*If this gift intention is to support an endowment fund, unless otherwise restricted by the gift instrument pursuant to paragraph (b) of Section 553 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, the institution may expend so much of the endowment fund as it deems prudent after considering the factors set forth in paragraph (a) of Section 553 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.
