Farewell but not goodbye to Dean Nancy J. Smyth

After 17 years, Nancy J. Smyth has chosen to step down as dean of the UB School of Social Work. She will take a year-long sabbatical before returning as a faculty member. A few accomplishments of note during Dean Smyth’s tenure include:

- Integration of trauma-informed and human rights perspectives into all degree programs 

- Creation of the inSocialWork podcast

- Significant growth of the school’s tenure-track faculty, which doubled in size during Dean Smyth’s tenure

- Creation of the school’s fully online MSW and DSW programs

- National rankings of the school by U.S. News and World Report rose from #46 to #25, placing UBSSW among the top 10% of schools of social work in the country
