Native American/American Indian Heritage Month

Help celebrate those who were the original inhabitants, explorers and settlers of the United States

Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.

Here at UB, we don’t just believe that diversity fuels innovation—we see it firsthand as our students from different backgrounds come together to solve some of today’s most complex issues. We don’t push down our differences, we celebrate them.

For over 50 years, UB has been furthering indigenous scholarship. Now, thanks to a prestigious grant awarded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, we have launched a Department of Indigenous Studies, which is allowing the university to contribute to the knowledge-generation of this important field, strengthening relationships with members of indigenous communities in the area, helping to preserve history and raising UB’s profile among other public universities.
