Support Student Participation! Human Rights and Sustainable Development - Lessons from Costa Rica

This program aims to expand students’ worldview by showing them how sustainable development is being advanced in Costa Rica.

Our goal is for all interested students to have access to study abroad opportunities, regardless of circumstance. We know that our program can be transformative for students, both professionally and personally, and participation can inform the work they do here at home and increase their skills for communicating cross-culturally.

Student learn about:

  • Globalization and our increasingly inter-connected world;
  • Frameworks for understanding human rights and sustainable development; and,
  • Actions they can take to advance sustainable development at home.
  • Students also complete a service learning project at ASONI (Association for the Smiles of Children), a non-profit organization that supports children living in extreme poverty.

What participants have shared:

“For me, it’s now about trying to figure out what I, as an individual, can do within my own community, while understanding that everything is so interconnected now that even the tiniest shift in behavior can have a lasting effect on the planet”, Former Participant.

"We had the unique privilege of being let into a world that is unlike any world I’ve ever seen.”
