Each year, we celebrate Doctor of Physical Therapy students as they transition from academic learning to clinical practice. The UB Doctor of Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony—founded by the late UB Faculty Emeritus and beloved friend Alfred Caffiero—marks the beginning of their professional journey.
Thanks to the continued support of faculty, staff, former students, and most meaningfully, Alfred’s daughters—Ms. Beth (Caffiero) Smietana and Ms. Leanne (Caffiero) Pressly—this cherished tradition lives on.
We invite you to be part of this legacy by supporting our students through the White Coat Fund. Your gift helps provide each student with a white coat, a powerful symbol of their dedication to becoming lifelong learners, compassionate healers, and skilled practitioners. Along with the coat, students receive words of encouragement and advice from donors like you, reminding them they are supported by a strong and caring community.
These white coats will accompany our students through the next two years of clinical practice, culminating in their graduation as Doctors of Physical Therapy in the spring of 2027.
When our students receive their white coat they will know that you made this possible and that you are standing behind them, proud of their chosen profession.
As we continue Al Caffiero’s vision of the UB Doctor of Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony, we thank you for becoming part of our tradition!
In May 2025, we will celebrate the following students as they receive their first white coat:
Each student white coat costs about $40 - support their dreams by sponsoring an entire coat!
Each student coat costs about $40. Show your support for two students by donating the equivalent of two coats!
Gift not only coats to an entire future class of DPT students, but cover the entire cost of the ceremony.
