Campaign: School of Architecture and Planning Alumni Fund for Study Abroad

Mission

One of the most pressing needs in higher education today is funding for scholarships. Scholarships allow deserving students to attain their educational goals, meet their professional objectives and succeed to their fullest ability.

The Mission of the Alumni Fund for Study Abroad is to provide scholarship and ongoing support to students in the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning through making life-changing international experiences a reality. In a seemingly increasingly divided world, we believe education abroad is an integral part of higher education and will increase the chance of these students giving back to their local communities.

In today’s globalized economy, studying abroad is also filled with career opportunities to help give students an employment edge. Overcoming the challenges that studying abroad presents will help students mature, learn how to thrive in new and unfamiliar circumstances, and gain self-reliance and resilience—all desired attributes in personal and professional life. With only a small percentage of the entire US student population going abroad to study, studying abroad on a resume will help students gain a significant competitive edge in the fierce job market that awaits after graduation.

Year of Inception: 2024

Impact: Thanks to our generous donors, this fund raised $3,500 in 2024.  The funds were distributed directly to students for their studies abroad in the summer of 2025!

Summer abroad participants have said: “This experience changed my life and helped shape my approach to design in the future,” and “Because of [alumni] contributions, I was able to fully immerse myself in the experience without the added stress of financial burdens.”

Goal: This year we hope to exceed $5000 in donations to assist additional students on their journey abroad.
