ABOUT CATHY DAVIUS
Cathy Davius was born in Mineola, New York on July 29th, 1993. She spent her childhood on Long Island where she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She graduated in 2011 from Copiague High School and went on to pursue Bachelor degrees from University at Oswego and University at Plattsburgh before finally completing her ultimate goal of achieving her Master of Science degree in Nutrition from the University at Buffalo and passing her exam to become a Registered Dietitian.
Cathy was one of those lucky people who found her romantic partner early in life. She met her husband Christopher Davius during their freshman year at University at Oswego. They frequently teased each other about their conflicting memories of how exactly they had met but the one thing they could agree on was that they knew they were perfect for each other. They quickly became friends and then developed into best friends, lovers, and eventually soulmates. Everyone that knew the couple could see that they were always on the same page regarding not only the big picture of things in life but also small, mundane details. Although their life together was cut tragically short after only nine months of marriage, their compatibility made those nine months the best of their lives.
Chris and Cathy would talk for hours about their stories of their travels across the country, their furry son Taco, and their dedication to their careers. One story that became a crowd favorite was Chris’s recollection of their first date when he attempted to be smooth and make a move by putting his arm around her at the movie theater before Cathy whispered in his ear and politely asked him to please move it back to his side. Another crowd favorite was Cathy’s recollection of a trip they took to Virginia Beach and Chris decided that it would be a good idea to throw a jellyfish at her despite not knowing whether or not it was poisonous. Years later, their friends continue to laugh during these stories where Cathy would tease Chris by bringing up the jellyfish incident only to be reminded when Chris permanently destroyed his pride after nixing his attempt at public displays of affection. As she would say, they can call it even.
Cathy’s hard work and dedication to nutrition was most evident during her first few months as a Texan resident as she prepared to take the exam to become a Registered Dietitian. She would regularly pass up opportunities to spend time with friends and explore her new state to stay in and prepare for her upcoming exam. Her sacrifice paid off when she passed the exam with flying colors and quickly received job offers as a dietitian at different food service organizations and hospitals across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. She accepted an offer at Southwest Food Service Excellence as a Nutrition Coordinator where she worked with the child nutrition team at Grand Prairie ISD to provide 30,000 nutritionally balanced meals to students daily.
She was able to settle into her dream career, in her dream city, with her dream husband. Starting in April of 2019, Cathy had everything that she and Chris had worked so hard for after so many years. She and Chris had finally achieved the “American Dream” and were looking forward to a lifetime of happiness together as a family.
On June 5th, 2019, Cathy started her day in the first apartment she shared with Chris as they began their married life together. She was drinking her coffee and putting on her makeup as Chris gave her one last kiss goodbye. Cathy was tragically killed in a car accident on her way to work that rainy morning. In a single moment, the lives of her friends and family were completely changed forever.
Life without Cathy is a life that is missing the small bundle of positive energy that her friends and family knew very well. We continue to live our lives in the way we know she would want us to but have the continuous reminder that she is gone from us forever.
Please consider donating to help the friends and family of Cathy Davius reach our fundraising goal to allow Cathy’s legacy to live on in the lives of future dietitians.
